Claire Gullander-Drolet holds a PhD in English from Brown University and specialises in translation studies, with a particular interest in the role of translation in the production and circulation of world literatures and cinema. She is currently an assistant professor in the department of English at City University of Hong Kong. Her research asks what the work of translation makes visible—forms of violence or structural inequities, on the one hand, but also points of cohesion and unity across geographic and linguistic lines. Claire has been a Korean language student since 2013 and held the Korea Foundation Language Training fellowship at Yonsei University during her PhD studies. In 2023, she was named an emerging literary translator by the National Centre for Writing in the UK, where she translated an excerpt of work by Japanese-born Korean Canadian author Ook Chung as part of her mentorship. She is currently at work on a book manuscript that explores feminist translation practices in shaping the world literature canon.
